Antarctic Center, New Zealand

One of Christchurch must visit is a trip to the Antarctic Center. A thrilling, nurturing, breathtaking, and bucket-list ticking must do experiences, located near the Christchurch Airport.

We visited New Zealand as a family in 2011, before we knew we were moving there the following year. This Antarctic Center trip was a dad and daughter day trip, as the boys were off visiting their friends and had been here before. Anna-Kate and I had a great time and I highly recommend you add this to your NZ travel list. Anna-Kate visited the Antarctic center a couple more times and really enjoyed it each time! It’s definitely a memory making adventure! There are several different ‘experiences’, and I recommend all of them – as they say: “… Located on the International Antarctic Programme’s working campus at Christchurch Airport, the centre has become renowned as one of New Zealand’s most diverse and dynamic tourist attractions. The range of interactive experiences here provides fun, education and excitement for visitors of all ages. Here you’ll experience real snow and ice and you’ll survive an indoor Antarctic storm. You’ll learn about life at Scott Base and see what it takes to work on the ice. You’ll hang out with little blue penguins and get close up to a husky. There’s also the exciting Hägglund Field Trip, an awesome 4D Theatre, a massive HD screen and lots, lots more.”

Dad’s Recommendation: Put this on your trip list when you visit Christchurch, especially if you have kids or want to learn and experience more about Antarctica.
